Preparing to Sell Your Home

     So you’ve decided to sell your home, now what? The first step is to find a real estate professional that is qualified to meet your specific needs. As with anything, it is always a good idea to interview multiple agents in order to find one that you feel most comfortable working with and with whom you feel the most connected to.  This person will be your advocate, market expert and guide from start to finish.

Some questions to ask for during the interview process should include:

  • What type of experience do you have? What type of properties do you normally sell? Who do you normally work with?

  • What is your strategy for marketing my property?

  • How will we communicate and how often?

  • Can you provide references or connect me with past clients?

  • What is your process and timeline for selling my property?

  • What do you expect and need from me to make this a successful sale?

While you have been preparing for the interview process, so should the professionals you will be meeting with. Some items that you should expect them to bring to any listing appointment include: a market analysis of your property with recommendation of pricing, a marketing plan specified to your property and a clear set of steps, processes and expectations that are in place to ensure a successful and smooth sale.

Now that you have found the perfect real estate professional for you, often the next stressor is what to do to prepare your home? Your agent will be able to provide you with tips specific to your property but here are some general guidelines to get your started:

  • Thoroughly clean and minimize décor and personal items. We always tell our clients to picture a very nice hotel room or suite. You want the buyers to be able to envision themselves in the home.

  • Consider a consultation with a Professional Home Stager. Statistics show that homes that are professionally staged spend 73% less time on the market and 81% of buyers say professionally staged homes make it easier to visualize the property as their future home.
